Shaundra Bruvall receives the 2023 Jenna Sauer Spirit in Coaching Award

The Jenna Sauer award is presented annually to a recipient that exemplifies Jenna’s unforgettable enthusiasm, grit, determination, and love of coaching ringette. This year, Leigh, Kelli, and Lilli Sauer are honoured to present this award to a coach who exemplifies Jenna's Spirit, Shaundra Bruvall.

As a coach and mentor, Shaundra ran most of the practices for Team Fusion and led all of the team's dryland training. On the ice, Shaundra shared her extensive knowledge of the game explaining not only "what" and "how" certain drills and plays worked, but more importantly, "why". This provided the players a deeper understanding and appreciation for the game. In the words of Lilli Sauer, "I found the way she ran practices and introduced new skills to be very helpful. There were numerous times where she brought up a new concept that I had honestly never even thought of before".   Letters from the players all commonly shared how they became more confident in their ringette abilities and learned so many life skills thanks to Shaundra's influence. Off the ice, Shaundra is a devote advocate for ringette, women's sport, and a role model for women in leadership roles.  Shaundra is also a strong advocate for community giving, organizing a team event serving breakfast at the Calgary Drop-In Centre.
